Weekender: March 25-27

FRIDAY, March 25th

Killborn Alley at Pipa’s Pub604 S. Country Fair Drive

Pipa’s Pub? Where? Yeah, I said the same thing. Turns out there is a bar on Country Fair. So, on top of checking out a strange bar in Champaign, you get to see Killborn Alley, who, rock. Like, hard. So, this sounds like a local adventurers-blues fan’s dream. (SL)

The Thurston Moore Group, Motes, Wicked Walls, The Accord, 7 p.m., $20 advance/$25 door, 19+

It’s certainly noteworthy when an artist with as much acclaim as Thurston Moore (frontman of Sonic Youth) comes to C-U, and even more so when you can catch them in a new venue. With local support like Motes and Wicked Walls, you’ll want to get there early. Trust me. This is gonna be a good one. (BH)

MAD MAX, Art Theater Co-op, 10 p.m., $8

The classic road movie MAD MAX opens this Friday. The battle-ready cars, ravaged landscapes, and punkish road warriors make for one of the defining dystopias visualized in cinema. The Art’s late-night is always a good time; don’t miss it. (RP)

SATURDAY, March 26th

Watch the Elite Eight and remember how cool it was to have a good basketball team, Any TV, TBD

Remember when Illinois was good at sports? I know, I can hardly remember it, either. But the good news is that at least someone else is good at sports, and we can be reminded of the long-gone days of athletic success, or at least the days where we would make the tournament on a consistent basis. Pro-tip: have a box of tissues on-hand just in case things get a lil emotional. (BH)

Carmella’s Doughnuts, 6 a.m. to the afternoon, 1611 W Springfield Ave, Champaign, $1 or so for one; about $8 for a dozen

These might be the best traditional doughnuts in C-U; if you haven’t had them ever, or recently, do yourself a favor and remind your mouth how delicious they are. Don’t forget to bring cash — Carmella’s doesn’t take plastic. Also, don’t worry about looking like a bum who just woke up, because you can simply go through the drive-thru. Photo by Jessica Hammie. ConstellationsStation Theatre, 8 p.m., $15

Two people, infinite possibility.
