Pina at the Art Theater, 5 & 7:30 p.m. Fri, noon & 7:30 p.m. Sat, and 4 & 9 p.m. Sun, $6-9, depending on your age and when you go
Pina is pretty cool, even if you don’t know all that much about modern dance or Pina Bausch. Here is SP’s review of the film, With Pina comes love, beauty and pain. (JS)
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo at the Art Theater, 10 p.m. Fri/Sat, $3
This is the recent American release. I haven’t read the book series, but I’ve seen both the original Swedish version of the film and David Fincher’s American adaptation. I felt much more engaged watching Fincher’s adaptation, which surprised me a bit, since I generally enjoy the originals better. This version just seems to have more captivating performances and more dynamic character portrayals. I shouldn’t have doubted Fincher, who seems to have a way of making well-edited, well-acted, and technically sound movies with long run-times. See for yourself for 3 bucks. (JS)

First Annual St. Patrick’s Day Irish Fest on Hill St., 8:00 a.m.–2 a.m., live music 11:00 a.m.–midnight
Now that Unofficial is officially over, let’s celebrate St. Patrick’s Day like some real Irish. Or like some Americans trying to be Irish. Or descendants of Irish immigrants wishing they were still Irish, except for that whole potato famine thing. Now on to the responsible adult drinking.
Dublin O’Neil’s will serve $4 drafts and food specials including corned beef ‘n cabbage all day long. Check out the extensive Irish whiskey menu, too. Of the 24 whiskies on the menu, my favorite whiskies to pair with their food are the subtle Connemara and the Knappogue 12 year.
Live music will feature Emerald Rum, Kilborn Alley, 90s Daughter, Sugar Prophets, and Outbound Drive. (SK)
St. Patrick’s Day Drink Specials at Seven Saints, 11:00 a.m.–2:00 a.m.
If you get tired of the responsible adult drinking at the Irish Fest on Hill Street, there’s more responsible adult drinking at the other end of downtown. And probably all the bars in between.
But Seven Saints will feature several drinks to get you in the spirit of Ireland, including a few with Bushmills Honey, Tullamore Dew, and a very intriguing sounding Rumchata and creme de menthe shot. Even though it is St. Patrick’s Day, the bartenders will not promise not to light your alcohol on fire. Photo by Charley Kline. (SK)
