Friday at the Ubben, the team met the microphones. Unimpressed by their bright lights, Meechi worked on a shooting drill.

There’s a basketball game on Sunday, against Western Michigan. Players talked about taking on Broncos II.

Or so I think. I didn’t really talk to anybody, apart from briefs chats with Alex Legion and Bubba Chisholm. It seemed like a good day for just taking pictures.

Chicago Simeon players and coaches started filing in.

They practiced. I didn’t ask why.

Of course, in this day and age, fans with the most serious basketball addictions don’t really care about the season at hand. They prefer to live in the future, dreaming of what may be

For them, the big event is TODAY.

Locals will want to show up as early as 11 a.m., when Champaign Central takes the floor against a Headless Rich South.

Also in the early portion is DuJuan Marerro, with Bowman Academy (Indiana) at 2:30, followed by Bobo Drummond and Peoria Central versus Tracy Abrams and Mt. Carmel.

Everyone will want to see Chasson Randle and Rock Island at 6 p.m. That’s just after dinnertime in small town America.

Jereme Richmond ans Waukegan will take on Centennial at 7:45 p.m. The nightcap features Quality Education Academy and Quincy Miller, everybody’s favorite impossible dream recruit, against an array of talent from Carbondale’s Brehm Prep. Because these two “schools” are mostly to do with basketball, you can bet the players will be exciting.
