C-U turns out in the heat for the Families Belong Together rally

A national organization, Families Belong Together, motivated marches and rallies in Washington D.C. and hundreds of other cities across the U.S. on Saturday. The protests focused in on the Trump Adminstration’s immigration policies, in particular the “zero tolerance” policy that separated close to 2,000 children from their parents, many of whom still remain separated despite an executive order ending the practice.

The local rally was co-sponsored by Bend the Arc: Champaign-Urbana, Champaign County ACLU, C-U Indivisible, CUP (Champaign Urbana Progressives), The People’s Agenda, and UIUC Sanctuary of the People.

Despite heat indexes well over 100 degrees, crowds gathered at the intersection of Green and Neil to make their voices heard.
