K-12 screenwriters and local filmmakers collaborated again this year to produce short films for the 7th annual Pens to Lens gala and screening. This late-summer tradition begins in February, when area students write their screenplays and submit them for selection. Green-lit projects are then picked up by area filmmakers, who recruit a cast and crew to bring the film from concept to reality.
The aim of the experience is to educate students in the art of filmmaking; both its technical and theoretical aspects. The project culminates in a screening of the finished movies at the Virginia Theatre, complete with a red carpet and movie posters, custom-made for each film.
