Elsa Schiaparelli once said, “In difficult times, fashion is always outrageous.”
Over 30 models graced the runway Saturday evening in U of I’s 9th annual fashion show, entitled “Re-Fashioned.” It was standing-room-only when the lights went down and the first participant took the catwalk. Students from the Fashion Design and Sew and Flow classes worked in tandem with students from the Metals Department to create unique outfits designed not only to entertain the audience, but also to raise awareness regarding the sustainability of the industry. SP Culture Editor Rebecah Pulsifer recently covered the motivation behind this year’s installment in an article which can be found here.
Technical difficulties related to the music and lighting near the end of the event didn’t seem to have any impact on the momentum or the message. The models never broke stride, living up to the old saying “The show must go on.” Upon concluding, the participants returned for an impromptu meet and greet with members of the audience.
