I had a chance to attend a Swarm game — but what is Swarm, you ask? Swarm is one of six teams in the Midwest Basketball Association. There are two teams in St. Louis, two in Chicago, one in Bloomington, and one here in Champaign-Urbana.
The players are paid, so they are considered professionals. Some are new to the league and others are veterans. NBA is shooting for the stars for these guys and landing on a cloud would be a pro team in Europe, Asia, South America, Latin America, etc. Although the team is based here in C-U, most of the players are out-of-towners.
Going to the game was fun. There was a solid group of fans, popcorn, and during time-outs they did games with the kids. They play at Parkland so there is plenty of space. For me, going to one of these games is a no-brainer if you like basketball. Ticket prices are $8 GA / $5 kids, students and senior. Children 5 and under are free.
Jordan Walker, former Central High player, is the only local representative. There are no more regular season home games schedule but Swarm has made a playoff and will be playing more at Parkland in April.
Connect with them on Facebook to keep abreast to their playoff schedule.
