The Center for Global Studies and the International and Area Studies Library brings you a djembe performance featuring Bolokada Conde, one of South Africa’s most renowned master drummers. In addition to the performance, he and his friends will tell stories about their worldly travels and experiences.

October is going to bring about some acts that just sound a little scary, and Mongolian metal band Tengger Cavalry is right up there with the best. This “Mongolian folk metal” act includes low, muttered vocals known as throat singing, the horse-head fiddle Morin Khuur, the Tibetan Horn, and other native instruments that coalesce to make a sound that is unlike any other and definitely foreboding. (In a good way.)

The Facebook page describes this event as “A free Bavarian-themed stoner/metal fest featuring a star-studded cast of local dirt-baggery.” That says it better than I ever could. At least six of the best local and touring metal bands will get together to shred it at one of the coolest venues around, and it’s FREE. There is no better time for those so inclined to get stoned and get killed.
