There are three very cool benefit shows happening this week, each with its own unique lineup highlighting different genres of local bands. I mean who doesn’t want to see the Rip Chords and the Girls Next Door belt it out for the UC-IMC. Weird. And Olde Scratch is coming out of retirement for it’s second show — and second last show ever. Check out the full lineups below.

WHAT: Alabaster Brown, The Hue, Van Ghost
WHERE: Canopy Club
WHEN: Thursday, December 2 at 10 p.m.
This is kind of an interesting bill as Alabaster Brown and Van Ghost bring the Americana and The Hue brings the “aggressive prog.” But we live in times where the kids like to brag about their diverse musical tastes so there are probably a couple of people out there who will enjoy all three bands. But I’m guessing they will be big audience changeovers between sets.
WHAT: Koffin Kat, The Afterdarks, Krank Daddies
WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($10)
WHEN: Friday, December 3 at 10 p.m.
Rockabilly to the nth degree. Though not a genre known for its subtlety, this lineup does offer some variations on the theme. The Koffin Kats play a darker version of rockabilly that veers into metal, especially in their singing style. The Afterdarks play it a little more straight emphasizing the surf rock. And the Krank Daddies punk it up and go full speed ahead.
WHAT: Bate Calado
WHERE: Iron Post ($5)
WHEN: Friday, December 3 at 9 p.m.
Bate Calado is one of a handful of local groups that focus on Brazilian music, but they mix up that country’s styles creating a unique sound. And this is another great charity show. All the proceeds will go to help support those recovery from the recent flooding in Pakistan. Nice chance to enjoy music and give some money to an underpublicized tragedy.
WHAT: Tina Sparkle, Maltross, The Fresh Kills
WHERE: Mike ‘n Molly’s ($5)
WHEN: Saturday, December 4 at 10 p.m.
Peoria’s finest power rock band is back in town. Maltross are playing possibly their first show ever that isn’t in a basement. The Fresh Kills actually play Mike ‘n Molly’s pretty often. This will rule.
