The students in ARTJ199 Ikebana, taught by Professor Emeritus and former Japan House Director Kimiko Gunji, will be displaying their arrangements at Japan House this Saturday, October 8th, for the community to view. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m., guests can come see the artistic floral displays. From the event page:
In only 8-weeks, eighteen University of Illinois students have learned some of the basic principles of Japanese flower arranging, including dots, lines, mass and miniature arrangements allowing them to make a jiyuka, or freestyle arrangement which encourages contemporary artistic expression. Students will be showcasing their favorite arrangements highlighting the theme of Kokoro, or heart, mind and spirit.
The exhibition is free to attend.
