Flying Machine Avionics is hosting three acts on Wednesday, July 18th from 7 to 10 p.m., one local and two visiting. There’s a $10 suggested ticket price, and it’s open to all ages. Here are the band descriptions from the Facebook event:
Sam Moss – Boston

Sam Moss is a musician living in Boston. His discography ranges from early recordings of instrumental folk guitar to more recent lyrically centered efforts, including 2018’s Neon, which has been acclaimed by NPR and The Boston Globe. Since 2014 he has been regularly on tour, performing in all manner of venues: pubs, galleries, abandoned silos, living rooms, and the Newport Folk Festival. HER CROOKED HEART is the new music of Rachel Ries – multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, rock & roll choir director, sideman, singer. Her Crooked Heart’s debut EP, To Gentlemen, and forthcoming album, To Love To Leave To Live, feature members of Bon Iver, Shane Leonard and string arrangements by the inimitable Rob Moose.Along with numerous and diverse collaborators through the years – including Hadestown mastermind, Anaïs Mitchell – Rachel has proven herself ever-curious to expand her sound, her scope, and sail on past the confines of ‘singer-songwriter.’ After all, sometimes what the heart wants is poetry and a syncopated horn line; a string section and a bass synth – all leaving exultation and devastation in their wake.
Cpt. Captain – Champaign/Urbana
Kevin Smith and Shirley Rogiers are the two front teeth of indie-country band Cpt. Captain, a band influenced as much by their roots in old-school country music as by the sprawling branches on their family tree of Chicago contemporaries.“Call us old fashioned, but Cpt. Captain still believes in the basics that built country music: three chords and the truth. Now, we might get fanciful with either (or both) of those building blocks in the course of any given tune, but they still hold up strong as ever. “
