This Thursday, September 20th, demolition of the West Side Park playground will begin, making way for a brand new one which is expected to open on October 26th, depending on weather.
From the Champaign Park District:
The West Side Park fenced playground will be rearranged during construction to allow a larger, grassy area for free play. New equipment will include shade structures, swings, a tot play structure for ages 2-5, a larger play structure for ages 5-12, accessible merry-go-round, and several benches. Rubber surfacing will floor the play structures for increased accessibility.
“Being nestled in downtown Champaign, West Side Park sees a lot of traffic each year. We’re excited to have the opportunity to make the park-going experience even better for residents and visitors through the upgrade of the play area,” said Joe DeLuce, Champaign Park District’s Executive Director.
Construction will be completed by Mid Illinois Concrete at an estimated cost of $203,320, approved as part of the Champaign Park District Capital Plan.
