Last night, my wife and I decided that a big pot of chicken soup sounded perfect for the rest of the week, as it looks to be cold and blustery throughout. No matzo balls this time; we had our sights set on locally made, Amish egg noodles.
So, being that the Co-op isn’t open in our side of town yet, we hit Schnucks on Mattis, but when we were pulling out, it dawned on me that we didn’t get an onion.
As we were literally driving past This Is It Furniture, my wife jokingly pointed out that we could go there for an onion, rather than go all the way back to the store. And so I told her, “You are right — let’s go!”
The wife is from Chicago, and doesn’t remember the hey day of This Is It commercials that aired on local TV in the late 80s through the 90s, primarily.
So, when I actually turned in, she said, “Wait, they literally have onions there? Where do you get them?”
I explained to her the situation, pulled up, walked in, and sure enough, Big Mike was there, just chillin’ on a couch. I picked up and onion, and figured to shake his hand, thank him for the soup save, and ask him if he still had access to one of my favorites from his repertoire.
He laughed, and said he did. Showed me online, and now, here I share it with you.
It’s goddamned priceless:
Thanks Big Mike — for the onion, and the laughs through out the years!
