(Champaign, IL) // — Over 4,000 renters in Champaign-Urbana will soon have access to cutting edge gigabit speed fiber broadband internet connections in their apartments. And for many of them, this high-tech add-on will come at no additional charge.
Over the coming months, Champaign-based Volo Broadband will connect fiber internet to thousands of apartments throughout the community in partnership with area property management companies Campus Property Management, MHM Properties, and Next Chapter Properties. The tenants of downtown Urbana’s Lincoln Square Mall – including Common Ground Food Co-op – will also soon have access to Volo’s super-high speed internet service.
These fiber installations, which use hair-thin glass fibers to deliver tens of thousands of megabits of data per second, will be found in most of Campus Property Management’s properties in Champaign and Urbana as well as those owned by MHM Properties. The near-campus Maywood and Lancaster apartment complexes will also be connected, as will the new 901 Western complex in Urbana managed by Next Chapter Properties. The technology being used delivers ten gigabit connections to each building, then distributes gigabit-level service throughout the buildings.
“It really is the crème de la crème of internet service available anywhere in the country,” said Peter Folk, Volo’s CEO. “The property management companies we’re partnering with are really ahead of the curve.”
Nathan Shoemaker, Director of Marketing for Campus Property Management, explained, “CPM has noticed an increasing need for faster and more dependable internet among our tenants, that is why we have decided to partner with Volo Broadband. We are very excited to bring more speed and reliability this fall through Fiber internet to over 1,000 students.”
This broad new wave of installations makes Volo the leading provider of gigabit internet services to individual residences and apartments in Champaign-Urbana. These offerings add to Volo’s existing fiber internet services already available to renters in Urbana’s Town & Country Apartments, Bailey apartments, and Next Chapter’s Terraces on 2nd. Additionally, Volo offers their low-cost gigabit speed amenity to downtown Urbana businesses and residents in Urbana’s Blair Park neighborhood. They also provide free wireless in public areas in downtown Urbana and at Blair Park, and
will be providing free wireless and gigabit Ethernet connections at the new Hammerhead Coffee café in Champaign.Later in 2016, Volo will begin offering service in St. Joseph, Illinois, and further expand its Urbana fiber-to-the-home network.
