Virginia Theatre 2014-15 programming schedule released

Champaign Park District Announces 
Virginia Theatre Inaugural 2014-2015 Performing Arts Schedule

Season to include Bill Cosby, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, Straight No Chaser, The Second City, The Canadian Brass, Mike Birbiglia, as well as the 17th Annual Roger Ebert’s Film Festival, the News-Gazette Film series and more 

Champaign, IL – The Champaign Park District has announced its inaugural 2014-2015 season of concerts, performing arts, film and special events to take place at the Virginia Theatre, 203 West Park Avenue, Champaign. Complete details will be available on the theatre’s website at www.thevirginia.org, by phone at 217-356-9063, or by visiting the Virginia Theatre Box Office, 10:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.

For the first time since taking ownership of the facility in 2000, the Champaign Park District will also offer a season subscription option available to Virginia patrons starting at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 18, 2014. Virginia Theatre Season Subscribers will receive discounts on select tickets along with other benefits. 

Individual Tickets for many shows in the 2014/2015 season go on sale at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 8, 2014. For other on-sale dates, see individual event listings.

TOUR THE VIRGINIA THEATRE 

Walk through this historic 1921 facility as you learn the history of how the Virginia was first conceived and built, its colorful past, legendary performers, and recent rescue from the wrecking ball. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Virginia is now fully restored to its original glory but with modern amenities. All levels of the Virginia are accessible to patrons using wheelchairs or other assistive devices. No reservations required for regularly scheduled Wednesday tours. The seminal 1944 American film noir, directed by Billy Wilder, co-written by Wilder and Raymond Chandler, and produced by Buddy DeSylva and Joseph Sistrom. The film stars Fred MacMurray as the insurance salesman, Barbara Stanwyck as the provocative housewife who wishes her husband were dead, and Edward G. Robinson as the claims adjuster whose job it is to find phony claims.

The 2014/2015 Virginia Season closes out with the extraordinary 1975 epic musical drama directed by Robert Altman. A winner of numerous awards and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, Nashville is generally considered to be one of Altman’s best films. The movie takes a snapshot of people involved in the country music and gospel music businesses in Nashville, Tennessee.
