Urbana Park District was awarded the grant through the Illinois Park and Recreational Facility Construction Grant Program, and it will be used to build a new indoor recreation and fitness center.
The health and wellness facility will be built in east Urbana, on land already owned by the park district. The addition of the facility is part of the Health and Wellness pillar of their 2020-2024 Strategic Plan: “Improve and expand upon indoor health and wellness space (H&W space) for the community. The vision of this potential space incorporates a variety of opportunities in fitness, wellness, and athletics to promote and improve the overall well-being of community members, while providing indoor, on your own time opportunities.”
