When I posted Ms. Farrell’s email to the press last week, the fact that the library board had opened another session after the closed session didn’t register with me (I admit to being ignorant of the Open Meetings Act). I was too caught up in what they’d decided. Luckily, Scott Mulford, attorney for the Illinois Press Assocation, was more on the ball:
‘According to the Open Meetings Act, what they did appears to be in direct violation of the law,’ Scott Mulford, a spokesman for the Illinois attorney general’s office, said on Friday.
The apparent violations took place when the board reconvened following a closed session on Wednesday night.
