Champaign resident Laurie Bonnett will be stepping down from her position on the Champaign Unit 4 School District Board of Education effective January 25, 2016. Bonnett announced her resignation at Monday’s Board of Education regular meeting. She stated she is stepping down due to her family’s plan to relocate soon for a new opportunity.
“Of all my volunteer work, my time as a Unit 4 Board of Education member has been the most fulfilling and meaningful work,” said Bonnett. “I think most Board members would agree that nothing prepares you for the extreme breadth and diversity of work that happens at the Board level. I have learned a great deal about our education system that I could not have learned as a non-Board member. Our children have tremendous talents, abilities and great challenges. It takes an entire community to fulfill those dreams and needs, not just an administration or Board. It is my hope that this community takes the challenge to heart when faced with upcoming decisions for our future young leaders. They need the appropriate tools to enrich their learning and meet the challenges that await them. I am confident that this Board has the best interest of our entire community in mind as they proceed down this path of opportunity.”
Superintendent Dr. Judy Wiegand and Board of Education President Chris Kloeppel expressed their appreciation for Bonnett’s service to Unit 4 and the community. The District will work closely with the Regional Office of Education to fill the open seat on the Board for the remainder of the term, which ends in April 2017.
