U of I students don’t get snow day, respond with hate speech

BuzzFeed has posted an article outlining some University of Illinois students’ responses to not receiving a snow day on Monday, January 27.

Here’s what happened:

The wind chill on Monday, January 27 is forecasted to be somewhere around -20 Fahrenheit. Chancellor Phyllis Wise sent an email Sunday evening indicating that classes would proceed as scheduled on Monday.

Some University of Illinois students were displeased by this decision, and took to Twitter to express this, using the hashtag #FuckPhyllis. The conversation quickly turned racist and misogynistic.

It is incredibly disgusting and disappointing to witness the ignorance and hate of these young adults. In addition, when others expressed their own disgust with the way in which those students were responding, they, too, were met with racism and misogyny. This is not acceptable.
