Atlas Obscura, a website that highlights unique and awe inspiring places and foods and stories, gave a nod to Altgeld’s Math Library on their list of “14 of the World’s Most Charming Libraries.” Curated from reader submissions, it’s a pretty cool thing to be on a list alongside the library at the Biltmore House as well as a host of international selections. Here is the description:
“It was a real steampunk-y treat to visit the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s mathematics library at 216 Altgeld Hall 11, featuring glass floors, narrow stairs and intricate iron shelving. The building was constructed in the late-1800s and feels castle-like.”
