My husband and I have reached that stage of parenting which I like to refer to as “the promised land”; we don’t have to hire a babysitter in order to have a night out. It’s a wonderful existence, and we are always up for unique experiences for our date nights.
Eastern Illinois Foodbank has an event they call Do Good Date Night coming up July 18th, that gives you a date night experience that goes beyond the dinner and a movie standard while also making a difference in the community.
Here’s how it works. Sign up on their website to reserve a volunteer spot, and commit to at least a $5 donation per person, though you’re encouraged to consider what you might otherwise spend on a night out.
Then, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. you’ll join other community members to do a repack in the EIF warehouse, which involves packing food into smaller portions so that it’s ready to distribute to their various community partners.
As a reward for your hard work, you’ll get to enjoy some wine provided by Binny’s as well as some light appetizers.
No matter what your date night frequency capabilities, this seems like a good way to invest that time, and you’ve got a few weeks to secure a babysitter should you need one. Be sure to sign up soon, as space is limited.
