Savoy’s own Triptych Brewing won a silver medal in the 2014 World Beer Cup on Friday. It was one of seven Illinois breweries to receive a medal in the international commercial beer competition and the only downstate brewery to receive a medal. Almost 5,000 entries from more than 1,400 breweries representing 58 countries participated in the biennial event.
Triptych’s winning entry was an English style brown ale known as Dirty Hippy. Headbrewer and one of Triptych’s three owners, Anthony Benjamin, expressed elation and gratitude upon learning of the award. “It is really awesome to be able to bring something like this back to our community and to do it just a month or so after our one-year anniversary really makes it special,” Benjamin said. Benjamin went on to note that while the award-winning batch of Dirty Hippy has since run out at Triptych, plans are well underway to brew more.
