Looking for something to do tonight? Us too! Wanna meet up at Skateland and play skee ball? … Hello?
Okay, consider these options instead.
+ Bill Ayers is giving a free talk about his time with the Weather Underground. 7 p.m. at the Main Lounge of Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory in Urbana.
+ Meet the Chief. (Not that chief.) John P. Froman, Chief of the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, will be giving a presentation on the tribe’s history. The tribe, in case you’re wondering, passed a resolution in 2000 requesting the U of I to cease using Chief Illinwek. 6 p.m. at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center.
+ MOVIES! The Mountainfilm Festival is showing a variety of action-packed movies at the Parkland Theater at 7 p.m., and entrance is $10. Boardman’s is currently showing the Cannes Palm d’Or winner, Class, which SP featured yesterday. Or if you’d rather go the way of the free flick, the UI main library is screening the Czech drama Something Like Happiness at 7 p.m.
+ Foellinger Auditorium is hosting Freedom Sings for the First Amendment, a multimedia presentation and educational rock concert featuring music that has been banned, censored, or has sounded a call for social change. (Not sure if Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” fits in there or not.) 7:30 p.m., free, and open to the public.
+ If you have never experienced karaoke with Paul Faber (or Paul Faber’s hair, for that matter), join the former Mabel’s owner for a few tunes at The Clark Bar.
+ Finally, if you’re into strutting your own stuff, there are open mics at Cowboy Monkey, Memphis on Main, and the White Horse Inn.
