Today on SP Radio, we talk to Assistant Professor of Biology Katy Heath and graduate students Dan Scholes, Abby Berkey, and Lisa Powers. They are part of a graduate course in Integrative Biology that is working to bridge the gap between town and university, between scientist and citizen, and between research and culture with an outreach series featured on Smile Politely, called Science Politely. We will talk about the current state of popular science in America, why science outreach to the local community is important, and how scientists can provide the public with important factual information in a world with a short attention span.
As part of the project, students from the class will be doing short weekly segments on Smile Politely Radio over the next couple of months.
You can catch up with the series so far with the introduction, an article about maternal stress, and an article about Illinois bats.
Smile Politely Radio airs each Friday evening at 5:30 on WEFT 90.1 FM in Champaign, and is available as a podcast the following week.
