On Saturday, July 19th, at Faith United Methodist Church (1719 S. Prospect Ave., Champaign), The Prairie Ensemble will perform its final concert.
The concert will include Benjamin Britten’s Soirées musicales, George Butterworth’s “The Banks of Green Willow,” Carl Nielsen’s Flute Concerto, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral.”
Join the Ensemble at 7 p.m. for Concert Conversation; then, at 7:30 p.m., the concert begins with Mary Leathers Chapman on flute.
Britten’s adaptation of tunes by Rossini opens this entertaining program, which also includes Ravel’s rarely heard orchestration of Schumann’s set of character pieces for piano. We’ll feature long-time Ensemble member, and principal flutist, Mary Leathers Chapman in Nielsen’s challenging concerto, and close with Beethoven’s summery “Pastoral Symphony.”
