Gather the kids at the computer with you this Sunday, November 8th at 4 p.m. to learn more about the Japanese concept of bento. We are all generally familiar with the idea of “bento boxes” as an easy and convenient lunch option, but according to Japan House, bento has a more complex meaning:
“From the actual container that holds the food, to the actual food, to the creating and placement of the food, bento represents a traditional cultural experience unique to Japan.
The surprise of opening the bento to reveal the edible contents inside is a delight for both the eyes and the taste buds. One can only imagine the precise selection of proteins, vegetables, fruits and sweets that await inside!”
Chef Suzuko Enomoto, of the soon to open Suzu’s Bakery will lead the session. You can find the live event on YouTube, where you are welcome to participate in the live chat. The video, as well as all previous Japan House Shares, will remain online for you to view at your leisure.
