The Giertz Gallery at Parkland College announced their next exhibit: “The ART of Illustration,” which will feature works from artists all over the country and will open on Feb. 12th.
An artist reception will take place on Feb. 15th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. At the reception, curator Liza Wynette will give a “curatorial talk” at 6:30 p.m., and the gallery will feature classical guitar music and refreshments.
Here’s a description of the works selected and when the gallery is open:
For “The ART of Illustration,” Wynette selected 10 contemporary U.S. illustrators known for their innovative work, personal style, and varying methods of creating their originals from paintbrush and gouache through digital manipulation. The exhibition will also feature books, packaging, and animation.
“In our visually saturated environment, illustrators must create work that communicates efficiently and effectively,” Wynette said. “However, the creativity and fine craftsmanship of their art is often overlooked as we go about our hectic lives. The goal of ‘The ART of Illustration’ is to bring the best commercial art out of the wild and into a gallery setting where the audience will have the time and space to truly appreciate the work.
Giertz Gallery at Parkland College is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The gallery will be closed February 22 for Professional Development Day and March 17–24 for Spring Break.
