With our current COVID situation, outdoor activities are crucial to safely getting out of the house, and the forest preserves have been an amazing option for this. Through January 10th, you can take a self-guided StoryWalk at Homer Lake Forest Preserve with your people. The walk is on the Timberdoodle Trail, and features Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner. The trail will lead you through the story, as you learn about what animals do in the winter. Unfortunately we didn’t get the blanket of snow that other parts of the state did this week, but it’s still a great opportunity to get out and get moving and get kids out of the house. It’s free and available anytime during preserve hours, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This is also the last weekend for Night Lights in the Garden at Lake of the Woods. On January 8th from 6 to 8 p.m. there will be a closing night celebration with hot cocoa, a scavenger hunt, and Winter Wonderland kits (register for that here) for pick up.
