Support the local arts scene at the 4th Annual Urbana Art Expo

The Urbana Art Expo, a collaborative effort by the City of Urbana Public Arts Program and 40 North, is coming to the Urbana Civic Center this weekend. The event is free, but you should bring your wallet because it’s also an art sale, and it’s a good thing to support the work of local artists. There will be 17 of them showcasing their work: Bekki Canine, Carolina Rodriguez, Cindy Sampson, Drea Aarons, EKAH, Erica Rae Stark, Esther Roh, Fraya Replinger, Kelly Hieronymus, Kirsten Gilmore, Lynn Hawkinson Smith, Marc Anthony-Macon, Marie Casteel, Megan Hinds, Ralph Roether, Sekani Reed, and Sierra Murphy. Here’s what some of them had to say about the event:

“The expo will give me an opportunity to learn more about being a part of the Urbana art community and how my style of artwork speaks for itself among a sea of other beautiful work.” – Sekani Reed (work shown above)

“My work explores the world around me – whether I am traveling or just driving home from work. The expo is a great way for local artists from all genres to come together and display their work to the community.” – Fraya Replinger

“This is my 4th Urbana Art Expo. The best part is meeting all the people that come through. My art seems to connect people to memories and images from their past. I love hearing about those memories.” – Lynn Hawkinson Smith

“The Art Expo let’s people connect with local artists in a relaxed inside venue.” – Cindy Sampson

There will also be musical performances by DJ Silkee and CU Jazz Collective. The expo will take place over two days this year, on both Saturday, September 15th and Sunday, September 16th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
