I stopped in at Vinny’s today, whimsically, upon learning that I’d be dining at the Seaboat this afternoon. After reading the review posted on Champaign Taste, I was curious myself about how their pizza stacks up locally against Manolo’s and Antonio’s, both who claim to serve authentic NY-style pizza.
In a nutshell, it does. The cheese was just salty enough, and the sauce, in classic NY-style, more savory than sweet. And the crust was nicely browned, for those of you who read that it wasn’t cooked enough on Lisa’s blog.
And while I was there, I noticed that they also serve sliders — the ever-so-popular little burger that has permeated the mainstream and that Seven Saints claims they are “legendary” for (since the moment they opened — bullshit).
The cost was great at $1.15, and the burger was cooked on site, with fresh ground beef. So, all in all, it was pretty good. The one problem, though, was the bun. It was Italian bread, like something you would be served with Italian beef. For me, a burger needs to be served on something far more sponge-y, and much less doughy. But that’s just me. They also serve it with ketchup as part of its standard chassis. And to me, ketchup should be reserved for french fries and children.
