In 2020, Rose Bowl Tavern was granted use of half of a city lot adjacent to the business, free of charge, for the purpose of holding outdoor shows. It became a safer option for people to gather in downtown Urbana for live music. They were allowed to continue using the lot from May to October of 2021. The City of Urbana put out a Request for Proposals for continued use of the lot, and the Rose Bowl submitted a proposal that was ultimately granted, as confirmed by owner Charlie Harris.
According to a memorandum from the Department of Community Development Services, they will pay a licensing fee of $500 per month, and agree to have a concert or event every day from May 1st to October 31st. Amplified performances will happen no later than 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
