Registration is open for Champaign City Government 101

The City of Champaign is once again going to offer the opportunity to learn about how local government works. Since my only frame of reference is Pawnee, Indiana from Parks and Rec, and that is most likely not completely true to life, I imagine I could learn quite a lot about how this place functions.

Here’s what you need to know:

The City of Champaign is proud to again offer an exciting opportunity for residents to learn about the inner workings of local government. The Champaign City Government 101 Academy will educate the public about the organization and operation of the City of Champaign, and promote civic engagement.  The 12-class Academy will cover topics like public safety, infrastructure maintenance, Council-Manager form of government, neighborhood programs, planning, economic development, and more.  After attending the Academy, participants will have a better understanding of the complexities of operating a municipal government and what goes on behind the scenes to support Champaign’s high quality, essential public services.  Registration for the Academy is now open.

The Champaign City Government 101 Academy is free and open to Champaign residents 16 and older.  Classes will meet at 6:00 PM on: September 10, 17, 20, October 1, 4, 15, 18, 29, November 1, 5, 8, and 15.  Seating is limited, and participants must register for and attend all classes.  The Academy will meet at various locations and provide participants the chance to see several different City facilities.

Registration for the Academy is being coordinated by the Neighborhood Services Department. You can register online for Champaign City Government 101 Academy at champaignil.gov/govt101.  For additional assistance, or to learn more about the Academy, please call the City’s Neighborhood Services Department at 217-403-7070.
