Remember the sunflower field in Urbana last summer? If you have any social media, I’m sure you saw all the selfies of everyone you’ve ever met in C-U in the field of sunflowers, happy to be doing something at a time when it felt like there was nothing. Personally, each time I see these sunflower photos I can only think of the samurai who smells of sunflowers. Samurai Champloo, anyone?
Well, per reporting from The News-Gazette, Champaign is getting its own sunflower field. Organized and owned by the same people — the Atkins Group — Champaign’s sunflower field will be part of a larger farm complex that will also feature fields of flax, buckwheat, red clover, alfalfa, and triticale.
You can find Champaign’s sunflowers this summer at 3501 N. Mattis Avenue.
