Children in Champaign County are invited to the 15th Annual Read Across America Community Celebration! The theme this year is Oh, the Places You’ll Go, when you read!
The event is from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 7th at Lincoln Square. There will be more than 30 hands-on literacy related activities sponsored by local organizations, agencies and schools. Volunteers from 6 local Rotary clubs will read stories to children throughout the mall. The Rotaries and Altrusa International of Champaign Urbana are also sponsoring professional storytellers who will appear at the event. The members of Altrusa are also generously sponsoring the featured storyteller, Jasmin Cardenas, a bilingual storyteller from Chicago.
The other storytellers appearing include Kate Kuper, Linda Dust, Dawn Blackman, Mike O’Brien and the Clothespin Puppets, Kim Sheahan, Sue Searing and Kathleen Brinkman.
There will also be an Other Languages Story Area and books will be read in Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Russian.
The first 1,000 children will receive a free book bag and a new book to take home, paid for by participating sponsors.
