For nearly a decade, local gardeners have kicked off spring by attending University of Illinois Extension’s Garden Day Workshop and Spring Festival in Danville. This annual event features everything gardeners need to shake off winter doldrums and get inspiration for this year’s garden: educational speakers, vendors, a silent auction, door prizes, raffles and more.
Vermilion County Master Gardeners will hold this year’s event on Saturday, March 12, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Crossroads Christian Church in Danville. There is no charge to shop the vendors or view the prizes or silent auction. If you wish to listen to the speakers, enjoy lunch and receive a bag filled with coupons, information and goodies, you must purchase a $25 ticket.
This year’s speakers and topics include:
- Safety in the Garden by John Bodensteiner, Master Gardener and radio and TV personality
- Raised Garden Beds by Walter Deck, owner of Walt’s Acres in Ridge Farm
- Take a Walk on the Wild Side by keynote speaker Carol Reese, nationally known garden expert
