The Black Student SUCCESS Project at Parkland College will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2018.
Founded in 2008 by Parkland College Professor/Counselor Donna Tanner-Harold through an Innovations grant from the college, the project offers students social, academic, and personal development workshops and activities. Tanner-Harold serves as director of the Black Student SUCCESS Project.
The project has been noted for its positive influence on students and has become an integral part of Parkland College’s student services. In October 2013, the Black Student SUCCESS Project was recognized as a “best practice effort” by the National Council on Student Development, and Tanner-Harold presented on the work of the project at the NCSD’s national conference in Tampa, Florida.
“Over the years, Parkland College students participating in the program have reported it as a safe place that helps minority students get to know one another and the college campus better; take advantage of leadership opportunities; and learn a wide variety of topics outside of the college classroom,” Tanner-Harold said.
