Open call for Figure One summer artist-in-residence program

Figure One announces its open call for submissions to this summer’s Artists-in-Residence Program (AIR). Each summer, Figure One has two artists in its AIR program. “These individuals are invited to turn its galleries into their private workspace for passersby to view and explore. Directly after the program’s conclusion, an exhibition of the works produced during the residency occurs.” The residency lasts from July 15 to August 26, with the AIR program results exhibited September 5 through October 4.

“One candidate should be a professional artist currently working and living in Champaign-Urbana and the other a recent graduate (within the past 2 years) from the University of Illinois’ College of Fine and Applied Arts, with priority given to recent graduates from the School of Art + Design. There is a small materials stipend available for the duration of the residency.”

Chosen participants must live in the Champaign-Urbana area during the period of the program and maintain “regular studio hours during Figure One’s hours of operation.” Applications for the AIR program must be be submitted by May 19th, and can be done via the Figure One website, using the “submit a proposal” form. Upload an artist’s statement, a proposal, and budget (downloaded from the website), a current C.V. or resume, and no more than 5 high resolution images. Finalists will be notified by the end of May, with interviews taking place the first week of June. For more information, inquiries should be directed to rcbarber@illinois.edu.
