Wednesday, December 4th from 4 to 6 p.m., the Urbana Park District invites you to stop by Phillips Recreation Center and let them know what you’d like in a new health and wellness center that is part of the park district’s strategic plan for 2020. They are currently considering site locations and conceptual plans.
The goal is to create a facility that will be accessible to all, with particular focus on serving the needs of those in low-income areas. From Executive Director Tim Bartlett:
“Urbana — like many communities in Illinois and the US — is facing a health crisis. Champaign County Public Health Department’s on-going health monitoring indicates that a high number of Urbana residents face chronic obesity, heart disease, mental health disorders, community violence, socio-economic challenges and a lack of recreation services for underrepresented groups in our community.”
Here’s a great opportunity to have a say in something that will enhance the community. You can read more about the plan for the facility here.
