Nerdiest space launch of all time set for Saturday, May 5 in Urbana

A student organization at the University of Illinois called Space for All has joined forces with a California entrepreneur to do something not at all predictable and send a high-altitude weather balloon to space manned by famed captains Kirk and Picard. According to the University News Bulletin:

University of Illinois students are counting down to the scheduled launch Saturday (May 5) of an enterprising project: a high-altitude balloon carrying models of “Star Trek” captains James Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard into space. Their mission: to record 3-D video, to seek out new heights and to boldly go where no action figure has gone before.

This nerdy quest began with this Kickstarter campaign and will come to fruition this Saturday in Urbana. The Kickstarter project is still live, so if you feel like adding to the already $6,191 already donated to this project you better move at, like, warpspeed over the next two hours and do so.
