Calling all kids (and parents): Chamabanmoms.com has reported that the new Nature Playcape for Urbana Park District will be opening this month. The park will be officially open to the public on April 22nd, after a opening ceremony from 4-6pm.
This is not your typical playground. The half-acre playscape will include climbing logs, forts, and tunnels. Instead of slides and swings, the nature playscape enourages creativity and imagination through lots of “loose parts” that can be manipulated such as plants, logs, sticks, soil, and rocks.
Proposed in 2014, the playscape didn’t break ground until September of last year. Around $100,000 was raised for the playscape through grants and donations.
The Park District is also accepting donations for the “loose parts” for play. Find the list of donatable items here.
