Kudos to “Poetry Out Loud” 2020 regional champ Ariana Mizan of University Laboratory High School (pictured above with regional runner-up, Elizabeth Weidner, from Teutopolis High School). Mizan won with a recitation of Siblings, by Patricia Smith and How to Triumph Like a Girl, by Ada Limon. Next Mizan and Weidner will head to the state-level championship in Springfield on March 2nd.
The “Poetry Out Loud” competition is part of a “national program encouraging high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance and competition. Performers are evaluated on voice and articulation, evidence of understanding, level of difficulty and accuracy.”
