Mark Roberts to Host Laugh-A-Palooza C-U

Champaign-Urbana, IL – On August 15, 2015, nationally known comedian and writer, Mark Roberts, will return to Champaign-Urbana, to host Laugh-A-Palooza C-U, A night of comedy and music, to benefit the Greg Chew Theatre Scholarship. The event will be held at Mike N Molly’s, 105 N. Market St., Champaign, from 7-11:30pm. Doors open at 6pm. Other featured performers include: The Impalas, C-U Comedy, Beat Kitchen, and The Abe Froman Project.

Roberts, an Urbana HS alumnus and former student of Chew, is creator of the hit television series Mike and Molly. He also wrote and produced for another popular series, Two and a Half Men, and has made numerous featured appearances on television and in film over the years. Roberts is also well known as a playwright and stage performer, most recently writing and appearing in New Country, in New York City.

The benefit honors Greg Chew, an English Teacher and Drama Director at Urbana High School for 35 years, who produced hundreds of shows, and inspired thousands of students to act, sing, dance, and create. The Greg Chew Theatre Scholarship, established upon Chew’s death in May, 2014, is designed to be awarded annually to an Urbana High School senior pursuing post-secondary education in theatre, musical theatre, or theatre design/technology.

In addition to Roberts, other former students or colleagues of Greg Chew performing in Laugh-A-Palooza C-U include Urbana teachers Bruce Rummenie (the Impalas), and Brandon Washington (Beat Kitchen) and Urbana HS alumni Katie Baldwin Prosise (Abe Froman Project) and Jungle John Simpson. C-U Comedy, a consortium of comedians, will feature Katie Prosise, Jesse Tuttle, Shara Keen, Andrew Hicks, Maggi Mayfield, Steve Shaberg, and Chris Hightower.

A limited number of advance tickets to Laugh-A-Palooza C-U are available at www.cusf.org/gregchew, or by calling 398-2873. Tickets are also available at the door, space permitting. Cost: $25.
