This March, the Urbana Museum of Photography presents its First Annual “Photo-Secession” exhibit.
The display is a selection from local, regional, and international contemporary photographic artists. The theme is inspired by the pictorial aesthetics of the original Photo-Secession movement led by Alfred Stieglitz in 1902. In the spirit of that movement, the represented work secedes from the ubiquitous digital standard of our time. It is an investigation into a variety of analog printing methods, ranging from carefully crafted tintypes, to painterly gum bichromates, to the warm, expansive tones of palladium prints.
The show runs from March 7 through May 7, 2013, with an opening reception at 7:00 p.m. on March 9. The museum is located at 122A W Main St, in downtown Urbana, above Mirabelle Bakery. Regular hours are Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
