Listen, this is not a lie. Unless of course, it is. But really, it’s not.
Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo. It’s a commemoration of an unlikely Mexican military victory over France in 1862. Skip ahead 155 years later, and you have something nowhere near as significant, but locally, perhaps equally unlikely, in the minds of most folks living in Champaign, addicted to Maize, and consistently being like, “What the goddamn? When is that place going to actually open?”
Well, this is the moment. At least, for a VERY brief moment.
Friday May 5 at 10 p.m. Armando Sandoval, owner and chef of Maize Mexican Grill, confirms that the restaurant will open and serve tacos from their cart, cold beer, margaritas, and palomas.
For just two hours. Until midnight.
As I stated, this is not a lie. Unless of course, it is. But really, it’s not. If it is, holy shit, I am going to lay my friend Armando to waste. Not really. I mean, I will just laugh with him about it.
But for real, he says it’s happening.
I believe him. After all, he has the taco cart. I seen it myself!
