We had a bit of a storm yesterday in C-U, accompanied by tornado sirens that went off without there actually being a tornado warning issued. Apparently a funnel cloud was reported at Kirby and Staley, prompting the sirens, but it turned out to be something called a “gustnado.”
Andrew Pritchard, who operates Chambana Weather and writes a monthly weather column for us, captured this photo of the shelf cloud making its way to the area. Below is a time-lapse of its approach:
