For those of us wondering what exact use the upended shipping container in Sipyard serves, artist Sara Paige took the opportunity to convert this unique space into something inspiring. Far Away Longing is her unique art installation created inside the ceiling of the small (but warm & cozy!) space. Starting at 11′ high, going up to around 20′, more than 50 twinkling lights are surrounded by hand-sewn holographic fabric cones and focused through lenses, then controlled by a mico-controller coded by Jeff Putney. The sewing and soldering was done by Paige and a score of maker-volunteers from FabLab, Urbana’s Makerspace, and other createspaces around town. Now you can stay warm, dry, and still have a beautiful night sky, thanks to their tireless efforts.
