YWCA USA’s annual Stand Against Racism campaign happens every April to “raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities and to build community among those who work for racial justice.” The 2022 theme is “We Can’t Wait.”
This year, YWCA of the University of Illinois is hosting a virtual event titled We Can’t Wait to Close the Digital Divide. It will feature a panel discussion on the “impact of racism on access to technology and the subsequent inequities in education, healthcare, employment.” The discussion will be moderated by Lemond Peppers, Community Engagement Coordinator for the City of Urbana. Presenters will be:
- Sam Hall III, Program Director with DREAAM
- Dawn Blackman, Outreach Pastor at Champaign Church of the Brethren
- Stephanie Burnett, Move to Work and Community Program Manager for the Housing Authority of Champaign County
You can view the discussion on the YWCA website on April 28th beginning at noon.
