Kyle Patterson, who was just re-elected to the Champaign County Board for a 2nd term (he ran unopposed), was voted in as Board Chair at last night’s County Board meeting. He sought the position in 2018, but lost to Giraldo Rosales, who garnered Republican support. Rosales was primaried by Emily Rodriguez this spring. At 33, Patterson is the youngest Champaign County Board Chair.
Last night’s vote fell along party lines, with the board’s 14 Democrats selecting Patterson, while the eight Republican members supported Aaron Esry. Democrat Steve Summers was selected as Vice Chair.
You can read more about Patterson’s vision for the board here.
