Yesterday, Kraft drivers got some news that was unfortunate but not entirely out of the blue. At the Urbana Holiday Inn, roughly 60 drivers were told they will be let go, starting as soon as June.
“They were all carrying letters which laid out the plan to discontinue using Kraft’s private fleet of trucks and drivers. The letter states Kraft plans to use existing carriers and other commercial carriers to handle deliveries from here on out, but the transition will occur in phases.” Some drivers will lose their jobs with Kraft in June while others, like the drivers based in Champaign, will stay until September. Even though employee performance has been “excellent,” according to company leaders, Kraft is letting these workers go due to “factors beyond control of the drivers.”
