Every year Van Grissom of the Department of Natural Resources pairs up with the PTA at Kenwood School to put together a family fishing night at Kaufmann Lake in Champaign. “We stock the lake with about 1,000 fish” says Grissom. “Then we bring the families out, provide poles and bait, give them a little safety lesson and then help them fish.”
It was fun watching the kids fish. They would squeel whenever they pulled a little blue gill out of the water. Parents were pretty relaxed too. It was a nice way to end of evening.
